PERIWINKLE PARK - SANIBEL ISLAND, FLORIDA
Campground Information - Campsite PhotosWe stayed at Periwinkle Park in March of 2021 and April of 2022
We have had the pleasure of staying at Periwinkle Park and Campground twice. One time in March of 2021 and the second time at the end of April 2022. Hurricane Ian hit the island on September 28th, 2022. Some of our favorite restaurants have not reopened, so I do mention them in my favorites on the Island, but they may still be closed.
Each time after arriving and getting set up, we got on our bikes and headed to the beach. It is a short bike ride from the park to the beach. The first time there, a sand mermaid greeted us (below). I was anxious to see how many shells were on the beach. My Mom and I always talked about visiting Sanibel Island and collecting shells. There were shells everywhere, but not the special ones .. just shells like on the mermaid. You have to hit the beach on low tides to find the special shells. CAMPGROUND MAP
We’ve stayed at Periwinkle Park twice. The first time was in March and second time was at the end of April. The only reason we got a spot in March was because it was during Covid and campers from Canada couldn’t travel. We had great weather in March. The second trip in April brought afternoon rain and thunder storms. There were more sunny days than not, but more “weather”.

Site 74 – Corner spot – shady and lots of room

OUR FAVORITE PLACES TO EAT

Tipsy Turtle is within walking distance from Periwinkle Park. There is a back gate by Huxters Market & Deli from the park. It looks like they are closed due to the hurricane.

The Great White Grill was great for Pizza and Wings… and of course a beer to go along with it.

The Lighthouse Cafe – new location is really close to Periwinkle Park!

We had a nice dinner at the Lazy Flamingo Searching on Google it says they are temporarily closed, but the website doesn’t say that. It’s a quick walk from Periwinkle Park.

We loved the Island Cow. They didn’t reopen after the hurricane. They have two new ventures – The Magic Bus and Wickie’s. It looks like Wickie’s is in the old locaton of the Lighthouse Cafe.
THE WONDERFUL BIRDS
There is a large aviary with some great birds. I visited them daily for some parrot talk!
RIDING BIKES
There are many bike rental options on the island. We brought our own, but would probably just rent bikes the next time we are there. Although … we did fix up a crate with rod holders for our bike(s). It’s a lot of fun riding bikes all over the island.

We rode our bikes to the Causeway Island and did some shore fishing.
FISHING GALLERY
We fished both times we stayed on Sanibel. Our 2021 trip and guide were the best of the two. We parked on the Causeway Island and our guide picked us up there. We hired Capt. Alan Hedstrom of Snook One Charters. We would highly recommend him.
